Our skills in action
Case Study: Strategic planning with Drive It NQ
Not for profit organisation Drive It NQ had realised the first part of their vision - to obtain funding and begin construction on a permanent $23 million driver education and motorsport facility in Townsville. The next step of their journey involved working out what next? Where to from here? How do Board members plan the way forward and prioritise what needs to happen to achieve the next part of our vision?
Working with the Chair and CEO, Renée designed a meeting process for Board members to create a series of 'program logics' - long- and short-term goal setting that enabled Drive It to come out of the meeting with some solid priorities and actions moving forward. Working in small groups, Board members took the major elements of Drive It's existing strategic plan and generated goals for the long and short term, as well as operational and governance actions required to move forward. The whole group then moved around the room to review and discuss the ideas generated. After the session, Renée recreated the program logics in a clear, visual and professional report for the Drive It NQ Board, providing them with clear and agreed next steps for action. Board members found the session so useful they agreed to make it annual event going forward. "What we’ve covered today could not be done in a year of Board meetings. We have a good skeleton to build the next year on, fleshing it out." - Pat Driscoll, CEO, Drive It NQ "You are a legend at what you do. What we achieved with Drive It NQ was brilliant." - Madonna Simmons, Board member "Well organised, excellent choice of facilitator with what was for me a previously untried methodology (and I’ve been to more than I can keep count of)." - Vernon Veitch, Board member "Format of today was effective, good that we had the ability to go around to see what others did as they had thought of things that some of us hadn’t. Good to see integration between the various areas." - Drive It NQ Board member "Positive meeting. The facilitator was excellent."- Mark Bogiatzis, Board member
