Our skills in action
Case Study: Planning day with a volunteer organisation
Entirely run by volunteers, NQ Speedway Kart Club was keen to create an Action Plan with an agreed vision, mission and goals. Club members had a huge amount of ideas and passion for their sport. They wanted to hold a Planning Day to help them move forward in a professional and positive way, so that the club could realise its full potential.
Renée met with the club's Management Committee before the planning day, helping them to decide what they hoped to gain from the day, and to understand the various roles of the committee. Renée provided the committee with a detailed agenda and process beforehand, to ensure they were comfortable with the proposed approach. All members of the Management Committee and two senior members attended the planning day. They established their vision and goals for the club, discussed the current issues they were facing, and made decisions about immediate priorities for their Action Plan. Renée helped group members to stay on track during the discussion, supported them to come to a decision during differences of opinion, and ensured that important points and action items were captured. Renée followed up with a written record of the planning day, for the club to use as their Action Plan going forward. At the end of the day, club members indicated how valuable it had been to have an independent facilitator for the meeting: "You definitely kept us on track.""It was good to have someone from outside the club facilitating.""We were a bit skeptical at the start but this was good!" "I would highly recommend Renée as a professional, personable facilitator. She was able to empathise with all of us and ensured that we kept to the aim of the day and did not wander off track. Everyone was impressed with Renee’s professionalism and her ability to inspire us to create a positive and professional way forward for our Club." - Eileen McGrath, Secretary, NQ Speedway Kart Club
